I share my story with you.
Dr Michael hails from Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. He completed a double degree track: Medical Doctorate (MD) from Universitas Indonesia and an Honours Degree in Biomedical Sciences from Monash University, Australia. He studied the effects of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) towards cognition. This sparked his curiosity towards neurosciences and the interface between the physical body and the spiritual mind.In 2018, he relocated to New York City and sought Psychiatry Residency training at SUNY Downstate where he was selected as Academic Chief Resident. He worked alongside a diverse population in eight training sites, including the VA. He formulated individually tailored treatment plan addressing social determinants of mental health. He underwent didactic training and supervision in supportive psychotherapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT).
"There are no medication side effects to psychotherapy"

Should I See A Psychiatrist
or A Psychotherapist?
Deciding whether to see a psychiatrist or a psychotherapist depends on your specific needs, as they offer different services:
Dr Michael is a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are medical doctors specializing in mental health. They can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication, and offer psychotherapy. They are often sought for psychotherapy and/or medication management, such as difficult-to-treat conditions when psychotherapy alone is insufficient.
Psychotherapists have various levels of training and specialize in various psychotherapeutic modalities. Some offer support and validation, others help gain insight in one's thoughts, behaviors, and feelings, and how they are connected to one another. Dr Michael collaborates with psychotherapists when medications might be indicated.
